Fielding Manufacturing Increases Precision Die Casting Capacity

New Techmire machines allows additional capacity for micro and miniature zinc die casting

Cranston, Rhode Island – July 10, 2012 – Fielding Manufacturing has increased its zinc die casting capacity with the addition of a new Techmire multiple-slide die casting machine. The new 44 NT machine, will allow Fielding, which has made its name manufacturing precision OEM micro and miniature parts, to manufacture parts up to 8 oz., or fit in a 3 inch cube.

"Zinc die casting is a mature process," said Steve Fielding, President of Fielding Manufacturing, "And even though zinc has been around for a while, designers are still discovering its benefits in the manufacture of precision components. Along with our four-slide die-casting capabilities, we offer in-house part design assistance, and rapid prototyping to test form, fit, and function, optimize manufacturability and drive down costs. In addition, we offer full tool design and build, perform all types of secondary operations and provide all finishes."

Zinc casting alloys are stronger, stiffer and tougher than molded plastics, extruded aluminum or die cast aluminum and magnesium. Zinc castings can be produced with thinner walls than aluminum or magnesium and lower, even zero, draft angles. Dimensional consistency is better, and trimming and machining are unnecessary, even where tight tolerances are specified.

Techmire is the world leader in the design and manufacture of multiple-slide die-casting systems for precision components in zinc, lead and magnesium alloys. Founded in 1973, and located in Montreal, Canada, Techmire has full turnkey systems capability, including design, manufacture and testing of die-casting machines and tooling, training of customers' operators and maintenance personnel, and full after-sales service. Re-manufacturing of Techmire die-casting systems and major components is also undertaken. Techmire has machines operating in more than 30 countries.

Techmire's line of multiple-slide, hot-chamber machines has the capability to economically produce complex zinc, magnesium and lead parts. The machines feature fully automatic operation for the highest degree of repeatability and reliability; parting line injection to significantly improve the shot-weight to part-weight ratio, by eliminating the sprue and reducing the runner system to a minimum. This results in savings in raw materials, lower energy costs, elimination of secondary trimming operations and faster cycle speeds. Cores can be pulled at any angle, in any direction, to provide complex die castings to keep tooling costs at a minimum.
